Development for nearly hundred years
It all began in 1928 when local forest owners Olle Säll, Daniel Engberg and Oscar Brodin sought to make use of their fine raw material of their forests. They purchased a small sawmill and a steam driven veneer machine and placed it by the lake, where the factory still stands today, and targeted sales towards the plywood industry operating by the coast
In the 30’s and 40’s, a number of other products besides veneer was manufactures, such as ski poles, carrying rails and baskets.
In 1946 Lars Hjertberg, also known as Mr Plyfa, was employed to lead the development of the factory. He stayed for almost 40 years. Major investments were made with the focus on plywood manufacturing, and during the 60’s, the factory had around 200 employees.
Plyfa was then owned by a Danish furniture company in need of raw material for its production. In the 1960s, the production was completed with a particle board factory.
At the end of the 80s, the factory was bought by Finnforest, which concentrated its production towards plywood from spruce. Profitability was weak and Plyfa began to work with veneer towards the growing parquet industry. When Finnforest wanted to sell the business in the mid 90’s, the factory was bought by Jussi Juselius, Per Kylander and Staffan Långström. Plyfa Plywood AB was formed.
The successful innovation with click system in parquet led to an explosive increase in demand of parquet flooring throughout Europe. Plyfa Plywood AB followed developments and switched to solely veneer production
A change of ownership took place in 2007, and the new owners, under the leadership of Jussi Jusélius, decided to modernize Plyfa by replacing the entire old machine line with a new and highly efficient turning and drying line, focusing on 100% veneer production and significantly increased volume.
In the autumn of 2008, the first stock of the new production line was swept. The technical development of Plyfa Plywood has continued and the owners’ willingness to invest is strong. In order to be the first choice for the parquet industry, the goal is to always have a modern production facility with a work environment in top shape, as we will always offer safe deliveries at the right quality.
